Japan’s Finance Ministry Forms Panel to Study Blockchain Bonds
A five-member group will meet Oct. 8, with the Bank of Japan and Financial Services Agency participating as observers.

Japan’s Finance Ministry is forming a five-member panel to examine placing government bonds on blockchain, opening a formal study of the technology’s use in Japan’s debt market.
The group will include academics and industry representatives. The Bank of Japan and Japan’s Financial Services Agency will participate as observers.
The panel’s first meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8 and will be closed to the public. Meeting minutes and supporting materials will be released later.
Japan plans to compile the group’s discussions between December 2026 and January 2027.
