The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) approved Coinbase Clearing LLC’s registration as a derivatives clearing organization Wednesday, expanding Coinbase’s regulated U.S. market infrastructure to include brokerage, listing and clearing services.

The approval covers only fully collateralized futures, options and swaps. Leveraged derivatives remain subject to third-party clearing, limiting the scope of Coinbase’s in-house clearing operation.

Coinbase Clearing will use USDC as collateral and support settlement 24 hours a day. The approval was recorded at 5:11 a.m. ET (09:11 UTC) on Sept. 30.

The move gives Coinbase a broader role across the U.S. crypto derivatives process, while keeping leveraged products outside the company’s direct clearing framework.
