Cboe Global Markets is weighing perpetual futures tied to the Cboe Volatility Index and plans to wait for more U.S. regulatory clarity before advancing the proposal.

The contracts could offer leveraged trading, while differing from options because they would not have an asymmetric payoff. Cboe already offers VIX futures and options.

Cboe Global Derivatives head Rob Hocking said the VIX’s spot level cannot be traded directly. He also noted that an option buyer’s maximum loss is limited to the premium paid.
