The deadline covers individual federal income tax returns, including returns reporting digital-asset transactions. An extension to file does not extend the time to pay.

Taxpayers who requested an extension for their 2025 individual federal income tax returns must file by Oct. 15, 2026, including those reporting digital-asset transactions. The deadline is not a separate filing date for crypto taxes.

For 2025 digital-asset transactions, broker Form 1099-DA statements may not include cost basis. Taxpayers may need to calculate gains or losses themselves and report them as required.

An extension provides additional time to file a return, but it does not extend the deadline to pay taxes. The filing deadline for taxpayers who requested an extension is Oct. 15, 2026.
