Iran is weighing the U.S. response to a proposed seven-day plan for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and expects to answer within days, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Thursday.

Araghchi said negotiations remain active and that messages are being exchanged through intermediaries. The substance of Washington’s response was not disclosed.

Iran presented the plan in late September. It calls for the United States to unfreeze Iranian funds, lift oil sanctions and end a maritime blockade within four to five days. Iran would then reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the seventh day while negotiations on a final agreement begin.

The proposal has not been accepted by Washington. President Donald Trump said Sept. 26 that the plan was unacceptable.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major energy shipping route, and any change in its operating status could affect oil markets, shipping risks and broader geopolitical sentiment. Iran’s next response is expected in the coming days.
