El Salvador added seven Bitcoin (BTC) over the seven days ending Oct. 8, lifting its reported holdings to 7,798 BTC as the country continued its daily accumulation policy despite conditions tied to a $1.4 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) financing program.

The holdings were valued at more than $643 million at 11:25 a.m. ET (15:25 UTC) on Oct. 8. The IMF’s 40-month Extended Fund Facility, approved in February 2025, provides El Salvador access to about $1.4 billion.

The IMF has said no further Bitcoin accumulation beyond documented donations is expected. It also approved waivers for unmet Bitcoin-accumulation performance criteria after El Salvador committed to corrective measures.

The fund’s review said documentation showed Bitcoin accumulated since the first review came from private donations and used no public resources. The program also calls for reduced state involvement in Bitcoin-related activities, greater disclosure of public-sector crypto holdings and the unwinding of government participation in the Chivo wallet.

The IMF’s latest review said Chivo’s majority ownership and control had moved to a private operator.
