Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States could seize up to $1 billion in Iran-linked cryptocurrency this week, as the Trump administration escalates financial pressure on Tehran.

“We could seize $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency this week,” Bessent said. “We know where it is, and we are isolating them.”

Bessent described the policy shift as an “absolute isolation operation” against Iran, moving beyond financial sanctions. His remarks did not identify the cryptocurrency, the wallets involved or the legal process for any seizure.

The statement points to a potential U.S. enforcement action targeting digital assets linked to Iran, but it does not confirm that any cryptocurrency has been seized. The administration’s next step would determine whether the announced possibility becomes an asset seizure.
