The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will not pause Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in New York after agents shot and wounded a man in the Bronx, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Friday.

“We’re not putting a pause on enforcement,” Mullin said at a Friday morning news conference.

The shooting occurred Thursday afternoon while the man was in a car with a five-year-old child. The incident drew criticism from New York officials and renewed opposition to federal immigration enforcement in the state.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she urged Mullin and President Donald Trump to halt ICE operations in the state. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani also criticized ICE after the shooting.

Mullin’s statement signals that federal immigration enforcement will continue despite calls from state and city officials for a suspension.
