U.S. Prosecutors Review Whether Binance Breached 2023 Settlement

The review focuses on transactions potentially tied to Iranian oil sales and Binance’s sanctions-screening controls.

The U.S. Department of Justice is reviewing whether Binance breached its 2023 settlement with U.S. authorities by allowing transactions potentially connected to Iranian oil sales.

The review is being led by Manhattan federal prosecutors and the department’s Criminal Division. It focuses on whether Binance knowingly permitted transactions that its sanctions controls should have blocked, including transactions potentially tied to Iranian oil sales.

Binance said it has zero tolerance for sanctions violations.

The exchange pleaded guilty in 2023 and agreed to pay more than $4.3 billion in forfeitures and penalties. The settlement also placed Binance under compliance monitoring.
