Franklin Templeton met with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s crypto working group on Oct. 9 to discuss how tokenized investment funds could trade on blockchain-based platforms.

The talks covered whether investors could directly exchange on-chain fund shares for tokenized U.S. stocks. They also addressed whether liquidity providers could charge service fees and how investment company pricing rules would apply to these transactions.

The meeting included tokenized exchange-traded funds and tokenized stocks, as well as trading pairs made up of compliant payment stablecoins or tokenized money-market funds. The participants also discussed whether liquidity pools would require an exemption under the Investment Company Act.

The subjects put fund trading, market liquidity and investment-fund regulation at the center of discussions about blockchain-based financial markets.
