President Donald Trump said Saturday that the United States may join Saudi Arabia in military action against Iran-backed Houthi forces after an attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed 12 people and injured 309.

“We may. We’re going to look at it,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. He said officials had only recently learned of the attack and would make a decision quickly.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the dead included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis and one U.S. citizen, along with nationals from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan. Airport operations were temporarily suspended as authorities assessed the damage and safety conditions.

Saudi coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki called the attack a war crime and said coalition forces would respond. Saudi authorities blamed Iran-backed Houthi forces, but no U.S. military action has been confirmed.

Saudi Arabia has fought the Houthis in Yemen since the group seized Sanaa in 2014. A U.S. move would add to Washington’s military commitments in the Middle East while American forces are already engaged in operations involving Iran.
