Lummis Says Democratic Opposition Blocks CLARITY Act Retail Protections
The Wyoming senator said the bill already includes a proposed CFTC office focused on crypto retail investors.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis criticized Democratic opposition to the CLARITY Act, saying the bill already contains a dedicated mechanism to protect crypto retail investors through the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Lummis said Democrats had previously called for a specialized CFTC office to represent the interests of retail investors in crypto assets. The CLARITY Act includes provisions establishing an Office of Retail Commodity Investor Advocacy.
She argued that voting against the legislation blocks the creation of that investor-protection structure, underscoring continued partisan friction over U.S. crypto market-structure legislation.
The dispute centers on whether the bill should advance with the proposed CFTC office included.
