German banks accounted for nearly all of the 42 new crypto-service authorizations granted to institutions in Germany in the third quarter, as the EU’s MiCA transition period ended and the bloc’s total additions slowed from the prior quarter.

Germany represented 42 of the 72 authorizations added across the European Union. Of the German additions, 41 went to banks, including 40 cooperative lenders. The EU added 105 providers in the second quarter.

At the end of the third quarter, 363 providers were authorized across the bloc’s 27 countries. Germany had 100 authorized institutions, while 27 providers licensed elsewhere in the EU had newly entered the German market through passporting, which allows authorized firms to offer services across member states.

Authorization counts show which institutions have regulatory approval, but do not establish whether they have launched services or how much business those services attract. The EU’s transitional period under MiCA ended July 1, 2026. Under the regulation’s terms, covered providers must be authorized; a refusal is a separate regulatory status.

The European Securities and Markets Authority’s interim register is updated weekly based on information from national regulators. Its records may lag national registers.
