Thailand Sets 80% Exposure Rule for Bitcoin ETFs Starting Oct. 16
The rules also limit where fund units can trade and bar securities firms from providing margin financing for them.

Thailand’s new rules for Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds take effect Oct. 16, establishing investment and trading requirements for funds operating in the country.
Bitcoin is among the first assets eligible under the rules. Covered funds must maintain average net exposure of at least 80% of net asset value during each fiscal year.
Custodians must hold a license from Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission. Fund units may trade only on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and securities firms cannot provide margin financing for them.
Thai mutual funds and private funds may invest in cryptocurrency ETFs listed locally. At the initial stage, depositary receipts tied to overseas cryptocurrency ETFs cannot be issued or offered.
The rules take effect Oct. 16, 2026.
