The Securities and Exchange Commission approved Cboe’s listing of binary options tied to business metrics at Coinbase, Robinhood and MARA, giving traders a way to take yes-or-no positions on company performance measures.

The contracts are linked to Coinbase trading volume, MARA’s Bitcoin production, and Robinhood customer numbers and revenue. Robinhood is expected to become the first retail brokerage to offer the products.

The SEC approved this securities-options structure while noting that contracts with a different structure may fall under Commodity Futures Trading Commission jurisdiction. SEC Chair Paul S. Atkins described the move as reflecting greater coordination, innovation and investor choice.
