Toronto Police Service (TPS) charged seven men in a case involving the abduction of a cryptocurrency exchange owner, in what investigators allege was an attempt to access the victim’s crypto assets and business security systems.

Police allege the owner was taken at gunpoint in Toronto on July 25, handcuffed and beaten, then released. Three of the accused are members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Searches during the investigation uncovered firearms, drugs and more than 2,700 rounds of ammunition. Investigators determined about 2,500 rounds had been stolen from the CAF.

TPS laid 82 charges against the seven men involving kidnapping, firearms and drugs. The investigation is ongoing.
