During Hines’ work to advance the GENIUS Act, Tether sent more than $6 million to Nxum, the consulting firm he co-founded.

Nxum’s three partners shared the payments.

Hines had served as a White House crypto adviser and co-founded Nxum. During the period covered by the payments, he was working to advance the GENIUS Act.

The timing is the central connection between the payment and the GENIUS Act push, and the details do not establish that the money changed the legislation or Hines’ work.
