Australia Opens Consultation on Crypto Platform Licensing Rules
Covered companies would need to obtain or change an Australian financial services license under the framework. ASIC is accepting submissions through Nov. 27.

Australia's financial regulator opened a consultation on licensing standards for digital asset trading and tokenised custody platforms, ahead of a regime scheduled to take effect April 8, 2027.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is seeking feedback on guidance for the two types of platforms. Proposed standards cover customer disclosures, asset custody, trading and settlement, and net tangible assets.
Covered firms would have to apply for an Australian financial services (AFS) license or change an existing license. The earlier consultation on capital and custody standards for crypto firms also addressed licensing and customer-asset protection.
The Corporations Amendment (Digital Assets Framework) Act 2026 passed Parliament April 1 and received Royal Assent April 8. ASIC's consultation concerns implementation of the enacted law; the detailed standards remain proposals. Submissions are due Nov. 27.
