Nasdaq’s proposal would put companies whose market capitalization remains below $5 million for 30 days at risk of immediate suspension and delisting proceedings, drawing opposition from U.S. small companies.

The companies warn that the cutoff could affect businesses with normal operations when their share prices are volatile. More than 190 Nasdaq-listed companies have market capitalizations at or below $5 million, and nearly half are headquartered in the United States.

The SEC paused the proposal last month while seeking public comment.
