Bulgarian PM Rumen Radev Says High Fuel Prices Are a Problem for Europe
Radev said lower fuel costs support competitiveness. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called the diesel agreement a “gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said he appreciated steps to lower fuel prices and support competitiveness at an EU leaders’ summit in Brussels on Thursday, Oct. 15.
“You know what is our problem right now in Europe? High fuel prices,” Radev said. “Any step in reducing fuel prices and to guarantee our competitiveness, we appreciate.”
Radev also said he opposed strikes on refineries and power plants, including Russian attacks on energy facilities in Ukraine, because their effects reach Europe.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called the diesel agreement a “gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin and asked what Putin had given in return. She said attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure were increasing and that the announced ceasefire was not working on Russia’s side.
Radev’s Progressive Bulgaria party won the April election.
His government has moved to reverse Bulgaria’s earlier Ukraine policy, including its approach to arms shipments.
