Brooklyn Prosecutors, FBI Take Down 241 Crypto Scam Domains
The October operation involved 112 servers and ended a three-year investigation. Investigators estimate losses in the tens of millions of dollars; prosecutors have recovered about $300,000 for victims.

The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office and FBI’s New York office carried out the October operation, which involved 241 scam domains and 112 servers. Assistant District Attorney Alona Katz led the prosecutor’s virtual currency unit. The action concluded a three-year investigation into an internationally connected cryptocurrency investment fraud network.
The network focused on Russian-speaking communities. Russian-language Facebook ads directed potential victims to fake crypto investment platforms. After victims lost money, some were approached again with offers to recover their funds, turning the initial fraud into a second scam.
Investigators estimated total losses in the tens of millions of dollars, and some victims lost their entire savings. Prosecutors have recovered about $300,000 for victims. The domains and servers were seized or shut down as part of the operation.
Crypto-related fraud losses were $11.366 billion in 2025, up 22% from a year earlier and accounting for more than half of all internet crime losses.
