The United States and Iran have not announced an agreement to end the war, despite a reported Qatar-Pakistan compromise proposal that has drawn positive responses from both sides.

The proposal is intended to prevent renewed fighting and bring Washington and Tehran back to negotiations. Under its reported terms, Iran would permit an unannounced visit by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to nuclear sites, while the U.S. would allow Iran to receive interest generated by $6 billion in frozen funds held in Qatar. Neither government has publicly accepted those terms.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry said Oct. 20 that talks were continuing and both sides remained engaged. Iran's Foreign Ministry called the U.S. response to Tehran's separate Strait of Hormuz proposal incomplete and insufficient. It also said nuclear negotiations with Washington were not underway.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major route for oil shipments, linking the diplomatic dispute to energy markets watched by crypto traders. No date or location for renewed talks has been announced.
