President Donald Trump plans to focus a White House cybercrime event Wednesday on overseas networks that steer Americans into fraudulent crypto investments, putting website seizures and impersonation scams at the center of the administration’s response.

Trump and Cabinet officials are expected to discuss federal seizures of websites used to promote fake crypto investment opportunities. They also plan to describe efforts to stop online impersonation scams as part of the event’s broader cybercrime agenda.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, FBI Director Kash Patel, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Attorney General Todd Blanche are expected to attend.

The FBI received more than 1 million internet crime complaints in 2025, a 17% rise from 2024. That figure covers internet crime overall, not solely scams involving crypto investments.

In March, Trump signed an executive order directing the Justice Department to prioritize identifying and prosecuting perpetrators of cybercrime. Wednesday’s White House event is expected to focus on the administration’s actions against overseas scam networks.
