Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian tied the prospect of direct talks with the United States to the practical removal of threats and sanctions, arguing that continued pressure closes diplomatic avenues.

“Threats and sanctions must be removed in practice to pave the way for dialogue,” Pezeshkian wrote on X. He added that increasing sanctions and pressure while discussing negotiations shuts down avenues for interaction. His remarks present easing pressure as a condition for renewed dialogue.

Pezeshkian has also linked sanctions to the Strait of Hormuz. He said Iran could not allow free passage through the waterway while sanctions remained in place. The strait is a key variable for oil markets, as discussed in earlier coverage of Hormuz and market risks.
