Poland has started a one-year cooperation program with HealthAI to prepare for full membership in its Global Regulatory Network, a step that would bring another European Union country into international health AI oversight.

The agreement sets out preparations for accession but does not make Poland a full member. If Poland joins, it would follow Portugal as the network’s second EU member.

As part of the program, Polish health officials will take a seat in the Leadership Group of HealthAI’s Community of Practice for government and regulatory authorities. They will exchange regulatory experience with counterparts from 30 countries. The network brings regulators together to address the safe, effective and equitable use of artificial intelligence in health systems.

Members of the network can access health care AI tools that regulators have reviewed and use a real-time system to share warnings about harmful incidents. Poland’s cooperation program is intended to prepare the country for accession to the group.

Deputy Health Minister Tomasz Maciejewski and HealthAI CEO Ricardo Baptista Leite drafted the agreement earlier this year at the AIMed 2026 Conference in Kraków. Leite said, “It marks a significant step for Poland, and for Europe.”

HealthAI and Poland’s Ministry of Health also plan to hold a gathering in Poland with participants from government, regulatory bodies, academia, clinical practice and the innovation sector. The event is part of the cooperation program and is intended to bring stakeholders together around responsible AI in health.

The agreement comes as the European Union’s AI Act enters into full effect and health systems across Europe expand their use of AI tools. HealthAI works with governments and health systems on governance structures meant to protect patients and their data while allowing innovation.
