Thailand SEC Has No Crypto ETF Applications Despite Manager Interest
Several asset managers have approached the regulator about launching crypto ETFs, but the SEC says it is too early to know whether the first products will win approval by the end of 2026.

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has received no applications to establish crypto ETFs, even as several asset managers have approached it about launching products under rules that took effect Oct. 16.
The regulator said it is too early to determine whether the first products will receive approval by the end of 2026. Timing depends on applicants’ readiness, regulatory review and investor-protection requirements.
The rules open a path for locally listed spot ETFs tied to Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH). Thailand’s ETF framework took effect Oct. 16.
Thai investors already have Bitcoin exposure through funds linked to overseas ETFs. ONE Asset Management received approval in 2024 for a Bitcoin ETF-linked fund, while MFC Asset Management later introduced a fund that invests through BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT).
