The federal government's $8 billion farm-aid package is not expected to reach farmers before the Nov. 3 midterms, with payments expected to begin in January.

President Donald J. Trump announced the one-time farm-aid plan Oct. 19 to address projected losses in the 2026 crop year. The administration also presented the package as relief from rising fuel and other production costs.

The national average on-highway diesel price was $6.276 per gallon Oct. 19, up from $6.179 Oct. 12. That road-fuel measure includes taxes and does not directly show the prices farmers pay for diesel.
