The account holder sent messages from both accounts during a video call and showed documents bearing a name other than Essick’s.

A person who demonstrated control of two X accounts named in Trevor Milton’s lawsuit denied any FBI connection, challenging the Nikola founder’s allegation that an agent used them to target him and a potential witness.

On Oct. 13, the Nikola founder and former CEO sued FBI Special Agent Christopher S. Essick and Nikola whistleblower Paul Lackey in Utah federal court. The complaint alleges they conspired to intimidate a potential defense witness and that Essick controlled @CntrlScrut1nizr and @lfxs1212.

The complaint alleges the accounts criticized Milton and Nikola, discussed bets against Nikola shares and harassed former Nikola executive Jason Roycht. Milton says the activity contributed to Roycht’s decision not to meet with his defense lawyers before Milton’s fraud trial.

During a live video call, the account holder sent messages from both accounts and displayed government-issued photo identification, vehicle registration and insurance documents bearing a name other than Essick’s. The person said they did not know Essick, had no FBI ties and had never shared control of the accounts.

Milton said his investigators found evidence connecting Essick to the accounts. He suggested Essick may have transferred control or directed someone else to post. “He could have handed them off,” Milton said.
