An Argentine federal judge ended the criminal investigation into the LIBRA memecoin case on Oct. 23, ruling that the evidence did not establish fraud in a probe involving President Javier Milei and others.

Federal Judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi’s decision also covered Milei’s sister, Karina Milei, and U.S. businessman Hayden Davis, who has described himself as an adviser to the token’s launch. The judge said Milei’s status as president may have widened the reach of his post on X promoting LIBRA, but that promotion alone was not fraud.

Milei recommended LIBRA in February 2025. The token’s price briefly surged after his post, then fell sharply. That sequence brought the coin and Milei’s role in promoting it into the criminal inquiry.

In a post on X responding to the decision, Milei said opposition figures and some media had used the case for political purposes. He also called for compensation for reputational harm he said he suffered during the investigation.
