The U.S. ambassador to Turkey, Tom Barrack, said a U.S. strike on Iran could happen this weekend, while President Donald Trump said Saturday he knew of no such plan.

Barrack said Trump was willing to reach a deal after months of negotiations. He said Washington wanted Iran to change its policies but was not seeking regime change. Barrack described the administration’s objective as restoring balance, ending threats and allowing the world to return to calm.

Trump was asked about Barrack’s comments as he departed for Florida, after a reporter cited the ambassador’s remarks. The question also asked whether Barrack’s statement meant Trump had changed his decision to hold off military action. Trump first called Barrack influential, then said, “If that’s the case, I know nothing about it.”

Barrack described a strike as possible, not a decision already made. Trump did not confirm a plan or say military action was imminent.
