President Donald Trump signed revisions to U.S. tariffs on Canadian imports, removing duties from several product categories while adding them to others ahead of a scheduled Oct. 30 start date.

The revised list drops plywood, selected paper products and machinery. It also imposes duties on carpets and certain valves. The changes take effect Friday, Oct. 30.

The product-level adjustments leave broader U.S.-Canada trade tensions unresolved. Earlier U.S. restrictions on Canadian goods covered an estimated $19.9 billion in imports annually, compared with about $715.5 billion in total yearly goods trade between the two countries.

The tariff cuts may ease price pressure tied to the affected products. The Bank of Canada’s next interest rate announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 28, two days before the U.S. revisions take effect.
