The Financial Stability Board (FSB) Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa met in Maseru on Oct. 23-24 to assess pressures on regional financial systems and consider policy priorities.

Officials discussed how global policy uncertainty and economic fragmentation could affect the region’s financial systems. Their agenda also covered regulatory and supervisory modernization, climate-related data gaps and insurance protection gaps.

Members considered whether proposed FSB principles fit regional needs. They discussed how AI and quantum computing could affect cybersecurity and financial stability.

The group discussed regional priorities in view of the FSB’s 2027 work program and coordination with other regional groups. Lesetja Kganyago, governor of the South African Reserve Bank, and Denny Kalyalya, governor of the Bank of Zambia, co-chaired the meeting, hosted by the Central Bank of Lesotho.
