Sweden’s Government Offices will block access to ChatGPT and Claude websites on staff work computers starting Monday, Oct. 26, while encouraging employees to use approved AI services such as Microsoft Copilot.

The restriction applies to the websites. Some employees will continue to have access to both assistants through an AI platform developed by the offices. After a review, the offices also raised Copilot’s security settings, but did not disclose the changes.

Mikael Wettercrantz, the offices’ director of digitalization, warned on the internal network that using AI services without a contract could affect information security.

Other Swedish agencies have also restricted AI services. Skatteverket and SiS have blocked them, while Kronofogden is considering a block.

An internal audit at Trafikverket earlier this year found widespread, high-risk use of about 10 AI services. It cited problematic cases involving the sensitivity of information entered into open AI services and the handling of AI-generated responses.
