The Federal Trade Commission is seeking testimony from Anthropic executives in an inquiry into AI safety and potential consumer harms, with OpenAI also under scrutiny.

Anthropic develops the Claude AI models. The inquiry covers possible unfair practices involving AI technology, including the safety and security of AI models.

The agency also sought information from both companies on Oct. 14; details of its Oct. 14 information requests have not been made public.

The FTC has announced no enforcement action. The inquiry alone does not establish that either company violated the law.
