The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) gave Ripple final approval Oct. 26 to establish a national trust bank, adding federal supervision to planned reserve management for RLUSD, its $2.5 billion stablecoin.

Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB) is authorized to manage RLUSD reserves and provide fiduciary custody for digital assets. Both services are planned to begin after the bank opens, so the approval authorizes an institution and its operating scope but does not mark the start of those services.

The charter ties the bank to two functions connected with RLUSD: reserve management and digital-asset custody. Federal oversight applies to the trust bank supporting that work, while the reserve and custody activities remain tied to RNTB beginning operations.

The next concrete step is for RNTB to open. At that point, the approved scope allows it to manage reserves and provide fiduciary custody, the two services specified for the trust bank.
