DRW CEO Don Wilson Questions Hyperliquid's Priority-Fee Model

He also raised whether offshore and onshore order-book liquidity could be combined and asked if Stan Druckenmiller viewed real-time tracking as an advantage.

DRW founder and CEO Don Wilson questioned whether Hyperliquid’s priority-fee mechanism fits the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) core principles, raising a regulatory question for a planned U.S. perpetual-contract market.

Wilson’s questions concern ICE’s plan to bring Hyperliquid perpetual markets onshore. Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent of the New York Stock Exchange, and Trade[XYZ] plan to use Hyperliquid infrastructure for a market covering crypto assets, stocks, commodities, foreign exchange and other real-world assets. The plan is subject to regulatory approval, with ICE set to operate the regulated market and clearing structure.

Wilson also asked whether liquidity from offshore and onshore order books could be combined. He raised the value of real-time visibility into positions and trades as a question for Stan Druckenmiller, asking whether Druckenmiller considers that visibility an advantage.

Wilson said on-chain trading can reduce friction by letting people transact without trust or identity verification. It can also let buyers receive an asset instantly through an atomic transaction, but he noted that perpetual contracts are not assets themselves, so that benefit does not apply to them.
