Gyeonggi has suspended work on a stablecoin introduction study begun in July, putting its February 2027 completion target at risk as a local official cites digital-asset policy developments.

The project started in early July 2026. Its timetable called for an initial proof-of-concept phase in August, followed by expansion work and a test network from October through December. It had not made substantive progress before the pause.

A Gyeonggi official said the project was not canceled. The official linked the suspension to policy considerations, including developments around legislation on digital assets, and said it did not amount to a comprehensive budget reduction.

The original completion target was February 2027. The suspension may affect that deadline, with completion potentially postponed.
