Bank of Ghana Governor Says Trust Must Guide Virtual-Asset Innovation
At a summit in Accra, Dr. JP Asiama cited potential gains in financial inclusion, cross-border payments and financing. Ghana passed virtual-asset legislation in December 2025.

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. JP Asiama said Ghana must balance virtual-asset innovation with financial stability and trust, while pointing to potential uses in payments and financing, at a summit in Accra Monday, Nov. 2.
At the Africa Virtual Assets Summit 2026, Asiama said virtual assets and tokenization may support financial inclusion, cross-border payments and new financing opportunities. “Trust is not the opposite of innovation; it is what allows innovation to grow,” Asiama said.
Ghana passed virtual-asset legislation in December 2025, and its regulatory framework includes stablecoins. They are used for crypto trading and inflation hedging, as well as for some cross-border settlements in the informal and semi-formal economy. Retail stablecoin use for remittances in Ghana remains limited.
