孙宇晨 said his lawyers asked a federal court to sanction World Liberty Financial, alleging a later ownership disclosure raised a dispute over the court’s authority to hear his case.

Sun said WLFI initially identified one Florida-registered entity in its disclosure and later sought to compel arbitration. After an August hearing, the court left some claims for public proceedings, he said. Less than a week later, WLFI amended the disclosure, expanding the ownership chain from one member to 22 and describing members of that chain as having claimed citizenship ties to Florida, Delaware, Puerto Rico and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Sun said WLFI then argued that the federal court lacked jurisdiction because both sides included foreign parties. He says the sanctions request concerns the timing of the UAE citizenship disclosure.

Sun signed a token purchase agreement for $30 million in WLFI in November 2024, and his total investment later rose to $45 million. He sued in April, alleging WLFI fraudulently induced his investment and unlawfully froze his tokens. The agreement allowed the case to be filed in California federal or state court, and Sun chose federal court.

Sun said he plans to refile the lawsuit in California state court after the federal court rules on the sanctions request.
