President Donald Trump said the Iran war would end when he chose, but gave no date or timetable for stopping the fighting. His statement leaves the conflict’s duration unspecified, keeping geopolitical risk relevant to oil and broader market sentiment.

He made the comment while addressing Democratic gains in the midterm elections. Trump congratulated Democrats and said he expected to work with them for the country’s benefit. He also warned he could veto legislation if they refused to cooperate, presenting a veto threat alongside his offer to work together.

Asked about Republican candidates’ losses, Trump said voters disliked some candidates and that some were not his friends. He said Republican grassroots voters understood this and did not actively turn out in those races. Trump added that Republicans would have won easily had he been on the ballot and noted he had not run in the elections. Asked whether he was frustrated by the results, Trump said he had done everything he could.
