The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) signed an agreement to coordinate oversight of agricultural markets, aiming to improve information exchange and help identify risks.

Announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, the memorandum of understanding will allow the agencies to align policies and practices, share information and expand access to risk-management tools. It also provides for joint monitoring to identify structural or potential systematic risks in U.S. agricultural markets.

The agreement builds on USDA’s data modernization efforts and is intended to help the agencies identify risks and improve their responses to market events. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins said, “Faster and more transparent data sharing between USDA and CFTC is critical to helping our farmers and ranchers navigate an ever-changing market.”
