Lummis Says Democrats Opposed Anti-Money-Laundering Exams for Crypto Firms
The House passed the measure 294-134 in 2025; the Senate rejected a procedural motion to advance it 49-50 on Sept. 15, 2026.

Sen. Cynthia Lummis criticized Democrats over anti-money-laundering examinations for crypto firms, saying the stalled CLARITY Act would help ensure companies meet those requirements under U.S. law.
The Wyoming senator’s criticism focuses on a bill intended to establish a federal framework for digital assets and address compliance with anti-money-laundering laws. Lummis argued that the legislation would help ensure crypto companies follow those rules.
The bill cleared the House 294-134 on July 17, 2025, with 78 Democrats supporting it. On Sept. 15, 2026, the Senate rejected cloture on a motion to proceed to the bill, 49-50, with one senator not voting. That procedural vote concerned whether to advance the legislation, not whether to approve its provisions, leaving the bill stalled in the Senate amid a procedural impasse.
