CLARITY Act Could Expire Jan. 3, 2027, Without 60 Senate Votes

Any push to advance it in the next Congress would require lawmakers to reintroduce the measure and negotiate a new agreement.

The CLARITY Act’s present text may lapse when the 119th Congress ends Jan. 3, 2027, unless supporters assemble bipartisan backing for the 60 votes needed to advance it in the Senate.

The CLARITY Act, formally the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, would establish federal oversight rules for parts of the digital-asset market. The Senate has already failed to advance the bill in an earlier procedural vote.

If lawmakers seek to move the proposal forward in a new Congress, they would have to reintroduce it and negotiate a new agreement. The current version’s potential expiration is tied to the close of the 119th Congress.
