Voters approved 43 of 44 local measures aimed at restricting data center development, with many receiving more than 70% support across several states.

Ohio was a prominent location for the contests. Measures also appeared in Maine, Kansas, Wisconsin and North Dakota. Proposals included bans, moratoriums and limits on electricity use, while most opposed expansion. One North Dakota measure favored development.

Some measures were binding and others advisory. Voter concerns included data centers’ electricity and water use. The results add to earlier local votes favoring data center limits.
