House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries said no member of his caucus has asked him to pursue President Donald Trump's impeachment, and said Democrats would focus on costs and congressional oversight.

Jeffries said Democrats have not decided to begin impeachment proceedings and have not ruled them out. Any action, he said, should rest on facts and meet legal and constitutional standards.

Jeffries said the public wants the next Congress to address practical concerns rather than political retaliation. He named food, gasoline, housing and health care costs as areas Democrats want to lower, extending his post-election emphasis on making everyday life more affordable.

Democratic lawmaker Robert Garcia, who is set to lead the House Oversight Committee, plans to examine Trump family business transactions and disputes involving the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Trump has said he is willing to work with Democrats.
