Colom Led Hyde-Smith by 2,498 Votes in Mississippi Senate Race as of Friday
About 30,000 votes were estimated to remain uncounted Friday afternoon, and counties have until Nov. 13 to submit certified results.

Democrat Scott Colom led Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by 2,498 votes in Mississippi’s still-uncalled Senate race, which will not determine control of the chamber after Democrats had already secured Senate control.
The latest precise tally, recorded at 5:30 p.m. ET Friday, Nov. 6, showed Colom ahead with 953,222 votes counted, about 97% of the total. An estimate from 4:45 p.m. ET put roughly 30,000 votes uncounted, though that estimate could change as more information arrived. The race remained uncalled Saturday.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled June 29 that federal election-day laws do not bar Mississippi from counting absentee ballots postmarked by Election Day and received up to five days later. Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson said Nov. 4 that about 3,600 absentee-by-mail ballots remained outstanding.
Mississippi counties have until Nov. 13 to submit certified results. The race will not change the chamber’s balance.
