Democrats plan to use congressional committee oversight over the next two years to pressure President Donald Trump’s administration on five fronts, including crypto policy and stalled market legislation.

The agenda spans government investigations, the federal budget, Iran policy, artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency legislation. Progress on a crypto market framework stalled after senators and the White House failed to agree on ethics rules for politicians’ crypto businesses. The proposed rules were intended to limit potential conflicts tied to Trump’s crypto business, making the outlook for crypto market legislation, including the CLARITY Act, less certain.

Maxine Waters is expected to chair the House Financial Services Committee, while Sean Casten is challenging her long tenure in the role. Elizabeth Warren is expected to chair the Senate Banking Committee. Sherrod Brown is also expected to return to the Senate, a change that would add to legislative resistance facing the crypto industry.

Democrats also plan to scrutinize artificial intelligence companies and their chief executives, focusing on data center construction, risks from advanced AI models and effects on jobs. On Iran policy, they may use the defense budget, congressional investigations and War Powers resolutions to challenge the administration.
