Hong Kong formed a team to provide technical support and answer industry questions on crypto-asset reporting rules taking effect in 2027.

Providers with a reporting connection to Hong Kong will have to register with the tax department and keep due-diligence records under the framework. These requirements are scheduled to start in 2027.

Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and Solana are generally understood to fall within the rules.

The first list of partner jurisdictions will determine which foreign tax authorities can access transaction data from Hong Kong platforms after 2028. The team is one of several arrangements planned to support the framework’s implementation. The development adds an update to Hong Kong’s crypto reporting law, which starts collection in 2027.
