Russia’s Investigative Committee has proposed adding crypto assets to the country’s anti-money-laundering infrastructure to help investigators trace transactions and obtain information that could help prove criminal activity.
Anna Starzhinskaya, head of the committee’s Main Investigative Directorate, presented the proposal in Vienna at the 20th session of the open-ended intergovernmental working group on asset recovery. The group operates under the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
Under the proposal, investigative agencies could use specialized resources from Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service to track crypto transactions and obtain information that could help prove criminal activity.
The committee found and seized assets worth more than $486 million from people involved in corruption in 2026.
