XRP Ledger 2.5.0 Update Brings Major Enhancements to Escrow, DEX, and AMM Security

XRP Ledger 2.5.0 Update Brings Major Enhancements to Escrow, DEX, and AMM Security.

RippleX, the development arm of Ripple, has launched XRP Ledger (XRPL) version 2.5.0, introducing major upgrades and essential bug fixes. Mayukha Vadari, senior software engineer at RippleX, described it as “possibly the best single lineup of amendments” in a single release, signaling a significant evolution for the XRPL ecosystem.

Among the standout amendments, XLS-85 enhances the XRPL’s escrow feature to support third-party issued tokens, including stablecoins. It also introduces multi-purpose tokens (MPTs), targeting institutional applications. Another key update, XLS-56, allows bundling up to eight transactions into a single wrapper transaction. With around 30% of multi-step flows failing, this feature aims to improve transaction success rates significantly.

Both XLS-85 and XLS-56 were proposed by Denis Angell, a notable contributor also involved in the Xahau sidechain project. Additional amendments include XLS-81, which adds permissioned decentralized exchanges (DEX), and XLS-75, enabling permission delegation—both aimed at improving security and governance.

Version 2.5.0 also addresses critical bugs to bolster network safety. Invariant checks for automated market maker (AMM) transactions have been introduced to prevent violations of XRPL’s safety protocols. To combat NFT-related spam, XRPL now requires users to explicitly authorize any NFT interaction, increasing user protection. Additionally, a fix has been implemented to stop the creation of unusable or malicious payment channels.

The XRP Ledger update underscores Ripple’s ongoing commitment to scalability, security, and enterprise utility. With amendments that enhance token management, transaction efficiency, and DEX capabilities, XRPL continues to evolve as a robust blockchain platform for real-world use cases.

This major upgrade is expected to drive increased institutional interest and developer adoption, strengthening XRP’s position in the digital asset ecosystem.
